Minnesota August 2026 SUD Billing Prep Guide
Minnesota realigned SUD services to ASAM standards for 2026. This guide covers what to change in your billing and documentation, with the federal-approval caveat.
Last verified: 2026-08-19The checklist.
- Confirm the current live status of the changes on the DHS SUD Reform page (statutes gated on federal approval; DHS go-live August 1, 2026)
- Map services to the ASAM-aligned service types under 245G.07
- Adopt the new 15-minute billing codes for counseling, psychoeducation, and recovery support
- Add the revenue code identifying the ASAM level of care on outpatient 837I claims
- Respect the outpatient caps: 6 hours/day or 30 hours/week without prior authorization
- Keep DAANES current for every admission episode — no DAANES, no reimbursement
- Confirm ASAM level-of-care certification (DHS-7325) for participating levels
