PIHP

A Prepaid Inpatient Health Plan is a regional Medicaid managed-care entity that administers a state's specialty behavioral health benefit. In Michigan, MDHHS contracts with 10 regional PIHPs for the specialty behavioral health benefit — serious mental illness, serious emotional disturbance, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and SUD — and the PIHPs contract with county Community Mental Health Services Programs (CMHSPs) as their provider network. Mild-to-moderate outpatient mental health is instead the responsibility of the enrollee's Medicaid Health Plan.
