Plaud NotePin S vs Plaud Note Pro: which one should a clinician buy?

Both Plaud devices work with NavixScribe, and both do the same job: capture the session on the device, sync it to NavixScribe, get the note. The choice is about where you work, not what you get. Here is how to decide.

The two devices in one line each

Plaud Note Pro is a card. It is about the size and thickness of a couple of credit cards and it lives on a table, in a shirt pocket, or on the back of a phone. It is the one to put in the middle of a room.

Plaud NotePin S is a wearable. It clips, pins, or hangs on the clinician. It is the one that goes where the clinician goes.

Where each one belongs

  • Individual sessions in an office. Either works. The Note Pro on the desk is the least intrusive option, and most clinicians forget it is there after the first week. If you already own a NotePin S, it does the job.
  • Group therapy and IOP. The Note Pro, in the center of the circle. A wearable on the facilitator captures the facilitator well and the far side of the room poorly. A card on the table captures the room.
  • Walk-and-talk, outdoor, and residential milieu. The NotePin S. It moves with you and keeps both hands free.
  • Intake, admissions, and mobile assessment. The NotePin S. You are moving between rooms, carrying a tablet, and sitting wherever the client is comfortable.
  • Home health and community-based work. The NotePin S. Nothing to set up or leave behind at a client's home.
  • Detox and nursing rounds. Usually the NotePin S, for the same reason. Nobody is setting a card down at each bedside.

The one rule that decides it

If the session happens in a room, buy the Note Pro. If the session happens wherever you are, buy the NotePin S. A facility running groups and individual sessions in the same building usually ends up with a Note Pro in each group room and a NotePin S for the clinicians who float.

What does not matter

Battery life, storage, and transcription quality are the questions people ask first and they are the wrong ones for this decision. Both devices hold far more than a day of sessions and both sync to NavixScribe the same way, so the transcription and the note are identical regardless of which recorder captured the audio. Check Plaud's current spec sheet for exact numbers, but do not choose on them.

What does matter is the workflow. Both devices record on-device, both bypass Plaud's cloud when paired with NavixScribe, and both hold the recording until it has synced. The session is safe on either.

Buying for a program

Two habits save money and headaches:

  1. Buy per room, then per floater. Count the rooms where groups run and put a Note Pro in each. Then count the clinicians who work outside a fixed room and give each a NotePin S.
  2. Pair each device to NavixScribe once, at setup. Label it with the room or the clinician's name. A device that gets passed around without a label is a device whose sessions end up in the wrong review queue.
